Monastery Cells as Guest Rooms

With a total of 30 single, double and family rooms on two floors, these former monastery cells are now open to our hotel guests to enjoy. Renovated to contemporary standards, our rooms are still furnished as they were in the times of the Capuchins — some of them even feature historical box beds and secretary desks. Fitted with comfortable mattresses, these unique beds ensure the highest quality of sleep. Many of the rooms offer a wonderful view of the magnificent monastery gardens. There are modern bathrooms for guests to share located on each floor. The monastery is wheelchair accessible; the bathrooms for the disabled are on the first floor. We look forward to your visit and will be happy to advise you individually for a successful event and/or overnight stay in our former Capuchin monastery.

Rooms with Art

Some of our former monastery cells are filled with one-of-a-kind artistic contributions — a special overnight experience! While we attach great importance to preserving the simple, monastic atmosphere of these rooms, tasteful, contemporary accents from art and culture can gently liven them up. Each of our rooms has its own title and may be used to display work by our current artists-in-residence on the occasion of our exhibitions.

All art rooms include breakfast for 87.00 CHF

HOPE “VACUITAS DELICIAE EST”

Olten artist Andrea Nottaris has created an installation which allows new freedom to enter this monastery cell still outfitted with its original box bed and secretary: freedom is a luxury – thought is necessary. A used display case without memory or content, narrow in structure and form, frees itself into a swarm of individual parts that are dynamically distributed about the room. These provide stimulus to think, to be amazed, and to dream.

PEACE  “AUDIO BOX MUSIC”

The original monastery cell “Peace” contains small poetic objects, books, and an audio box. This box is a zeppelin-shaped object made of local cherry wood and contains six specially selected classical and modern pieces of music. Ease of use invites the guest to while away the time listening through headphones. An audio and art installation created by Sandra Löwe, Sprachhaus M.

HAPPINESS  “ZEITGEIST”

In our pulsating, fast-paced lives, time has become a luxury. The sensation of time seems to fluctuate between real and perceived time. Time has many spirits. Discover some of these in four hourglasses. A creative contribution by the students Manuela Dornbierer and Joanna Selinger from the course “Luxury as an Experiment” at the FHNW School of Art and Design, Basel.

ROOM OF GUARDIAN «DANCERS»

«Guardian» also means «the keeper». This former cell was home to the abbot of the monastery for centuries. While Susanne Smajić’s exhibition «Worlds of Images» takes place throughout the monastery, three hotel rooms will be adorned with a selection of her ink drawings. Noble dancers cavort in the «Guardian» and are protected by a little guardian under glass. This abundance has been curated by Sandra Löwe and will last from 22 October 2020, to 11 April 2021.

STAY ROOM «DANCERS».

Stepping into «Stay» — a fine, Nordic room — you step into something almost like your grandmother’s cozy living room. While Susanne Smajić’s exhibition «Worlds of Images» takes place throughout the monastery, three hotel rooms will be adorned with a selection of her ink drawings. In «Stay», two pink ladies move softly, sincerely, and playfully while an old children’s toy, a little bird, sits on the windowsill. This tender freshness curated by Sandra Löwe will last from 22 October 2020 to 11 April 2021.

APOLLINARIS ROOM « DANCERS »

«Apollinaris» at the end of the cross corridor is a kind of hiding place — a secret, a noble twin room. While Susanne Smajić’s exhibition «Worlds of Images» takes place throughout the monastery, three hotel rooms will be adorned with a selection of her ink drawings. In the «Apollinaris» room, eight drawings refine and structure the room through movement and expression. What’s more, there is an amber scent under glass — an inspiration. Curated by Sandra Löwe. Duration: 22 October 2020, to 11 April 2021.
